Bridgit Mendler may have moved on from her Disney Channel show Good Luck Charlie (*tear*), but there’s one thing she took with her: on-screen boyfriend, Spencer (AKA, Shane Harper).

That’s right: Bridgit and Shane Harper are still going strong post-Good Luck Charlie. But as any fan of the Disney Channel classic knows, their on-screen relationship was pretty rocky, and as it turns out, their real life one hasn’t been all smooth-sailing either. Despite being a super awesome guy and complete hottie, Shane had to win Bridgit over IRL, because she thought he was annoying when they first met! *GASP*

Bridgit stopped by the The Meredith Vieira Show and got real about the couple’s awkward beginnings, sharing, “We were 16 when we met. Actually, he was 15 (I’m a cougar). He’s two months younger than me, so he just turned 16. I don’t know… maybe he was just too boisterous or something and I was just lame and I thought I was too good.”

So what changed Bridgit’s mind? Chivalry, apparently! “Two years later we were just in the same friend group for awhile and he wore me down,” she gushed about Shane. “Persistence. I think chivalry should never die. I think a guy should fight for a girl and wait for a girl.”

Don’t forget to check out this Web Extra one minute clip from Meredith Vieira’s Youtube Channel, of Bridgit answering a couple questions as well.

Check out Bridgit’s second blog post for and #ARALLACCESS, to find out what she loves about being on set and on the road, differences and similarities, the progress on her new album and her inspirations.

Hey American Rag, glad to be writing to you guys again!

Last time I was writing I was working on shooting episodes of Undateable. Now I’m so glad to have the show out for everyone to see. This also means, more time for songwriting! Being in the studio is pretty different than being on set. On set there are a bunch of people around all the time; depending on the day 20-100. But in the studio, it’s just the other writer and producer. Also, in the studio I make up the words I sing whereas on set, I rehearse the lines someone else wrote. Also, on set my call time is usually around 9:00 in the morning, while musicians generally start their day at noon at the earliest. But this works out well for me because I usually feel more musically inspired at night. I come up with some of my favorite song concepts right before bed.
